May the light of Christ, rising in glory, banish all darkness from our hearts and minds. — Book of Common Prayer
The Great Vigil of Easter is the first liturgy of Easter Day. This service will consist of light and song, a dramatic recounting of the history of God’s mighty acts and promises, celebration of Holy Baptism, and the feast of the Holy Eucharist. The service is memorable and immersive, engaging for young and old alike. We hope you’ll join us at Gathering Place (3245 New Brighton Rd, Arden Hills) at 7 p.m. on March 30.
Bring your bells to ring at the “Alleluia’s”!
Help to Create an Easter Vigil Soundscape
The stories of God’s works of salvation that form the scripture readings for the Easter Vigil are full of sounds—the same sounds that we hear in the world around us. Can you hear them? The rush of wind, the clash of metal, the call of animals, crying, laughter, murmuring, and the many ways that water is a part of our lives from rivers and lakes to splashing of baths and faucets to the patter of rain.
In preparation for this year’s Easter Vigil we invite you to observe, listen, and record a variety of snippets of sounds around you, which will be used to create a soundscape to underlie our live Easter Vigil readings on Saturday, March 30, 7 p.m. We’re excited by the opportunities this creates for the whole congregation to participate in preparation for the worship service.
What to Do
- Meditate on one or more the following readings: The Flood (Genesis 6:5-8, 7:1-5, 7:11-18, 8:6-20, 9:8-13), The Exodus (Exodus 14:10-15:1), Jonah 1-2, and Ezekiel 36:24-28.
- Observe what sounds the people in the readings would have heard
- Think about where these sounds are present around you
- Grab a smartphone and take an audio recording (any voice memo app should work) Note the day and time and place where the recording was made
- Share clip and its details by email to [email protected] Repeat as often as the inspiration hits you!
